Both males and females have a hormone called Androgen. Though it is generally referred to as a male hormone, it is found in women as well. Due to some enzyme, this hormone produces a by-product called Dihydrotestostrone or Dht.
Dht is what gets attached to your hair follicles thereby cutting the blood provide to them. Without the proper provide of blood, hair follicles begin to shrink and cause hair to grow thin.
Eventually, thin hair falls off and the follicles too wither away. What is left is a spot on the scalp where the hair cannot re-grow due to the blocking caused by Dht.
